419. STANDARD DESI GIRL

The following evening I am doing my usual thing – lying on the couch, watching Will & Grace, drinking some Diet Coke. My phone goes off. The one thing I have to say is – texting is very nice when I don’t want to actually speak to someone.

Which is rather amusing because three years ago - I could talk, talk, talk, talk. For hours. Three hours easy. Once I spoke on the phone for seven hours, to the same person. Now if I am on the phone for seven minutes I fidget. Okay – seven minutes I can do, thirty-seven, maybe not.

I pick up the phone and see Flyboy’s text: Hey Desi Girl – wanted to confirm Saturday.

On one hand it is nice to meet a man in New York who is interested in meeting. However, of all the men I have dated, this one seems most likely to stalk, but I am sure I have chased away many a man by being too interested in meeting them.

Text to Flyboy: Sure – Saturday is fine. It needs to be on the West Side. (I must also confess that I don’t want to go to the East Side for a date. It is a lot of work to get there and I REALLY REALLY REALLY have to like a guy, like I did with Reindeer and Town and Country, to go east or south of Grand Central Station. Also, there is a chance he won’t come to this side of the island, of which, of course, I am okay with).

Flyboy: Where on the West Side.

Well, crap – it is not like I thought about much more than “here is the geographic area I am willing to meet you”. And also I need to run some errands like go to Barnes and Noble on 82nd and Broadway and then groceries at West Side Market at 110th and Broadway, so I was thinking someplace, TBD, between my errands. A truth that cannot be revealed of course. It is not nice to say “you are how I am spending my time between errands”.

Me: Uhm, I was thinking someplace along Broadway in Happy Valley.
Flyboy: Happy Valley?
Me: Yes, the area just south of Columbia.
Flyboy: You mean the Upper West Side?
Me: No I mean just north of that.
Flyboy: Oh – I don’t that area.
Me: I’ll find a place and text you back.
Flyboy: Okay – when.
Me: (annoyed) I don’t know. Need to consult my Zagat I have a few days until Saturday.
Flyboy: Okay. Let me know what you pick.

Thank goodness this annoying discussion is over – this would have been a maddening conversation by voice! Also – I know where I want to go for lunch - sushi. But I thought it best to wait a few days. I don’t think Flyboy is a sushi type of a guy. But he said I could pick, so I did!

Ain't nothin' standard about you DG! Sounds like the between the errands boy isn't going to make it between the sheets (lol)! He's too indecisive and needy. Pick a damn restaurant dork! It's NY f'in city!!

you have already formed an opinion that he is not good enough - but the way i see it is that he finds you really interesting and is quite confident of himself. both positive indicators of a good beginning. good luck!!

I know I should go with the flow and see what happens ... Bangalore Cousin's son, when was young, like 7 or 9, one day said "Chillax Massi, chillax." Out of the mouths of babes!
