450. ENGAGING DESI GIRL

“So what do you know about back-up generators?” I ask Desi Brother and tuck the phone under my ear.

The centers of most my nails are still a little sore, but they have stopped throbbing – so that is a big plus. The edges are uneven, but smooth and no longer catching on loose threads. Another plus.

“Uhm….whhhhhhy?” Desi Brother asks. “Town and Country is asking,” I reply. “Why?” he asks. “For his house. He needs one that will power 3,000 square feet for as many as days as possible,” I reply. “Why does anyone living on an island need a back-up generator?” Desi Brother asks. “I don’t know – maybe the end of the world is coming and he is the only one who knows and he is getting ready – maybe he is the modern day Noah and this is his ark – can you help me or not?” I ask a little snappily.

“Of course I will help you – I just don’t understand this man,” he replies. Either do I. I have to say though – working on this project has been fun. Some of which could be attributed to seeing Town and Country, but much of it is because it is very empowering to work on work that engages you. I feel like I am making a difference, helping someone problem solve, engaging in partnership with my brother - I haven’t enjoyed work like this in a very long time. It feels good to have a purpose.

I hear Desi Brother typing. “Where is he putting the generator?” Desi Brother asks. “He has a backyard – a really nice garden space. It is sad that he is too busy that he cannot enjoy it,” I reply. “And he wants to ruin that with a generator?” he asks. “How did we go from remodeling his kitchen to back-up power supply?” Desi Brother asks.

I sigh. “I don’t know,” I reply. “Don’t get me wrong – I think it is great that he is helping you – but why doesn’t he hire an architect?” Desi Brother asks. “He had one – he was not pleased with the man’s performance, so here I am,” I reply. “Oh – and we need to talk sheetrock and soundproofing,” I say. “What about it? Don’t tell me someone living in the middle of Manhattan thinks he can live in silence?” Desi Brother asks.

“I will find out tomorrow when I inspect the walls,” I reply. “Lordy. Don’t get mad – but he kinda reminds me of Dad,” Desi Brother mutters.

Dear Vic Sembi -

Aw! What a nice note to read. And yes, the Desi Girl Heart is set on Town and Country.

And you are SO correct - and something time has taken me to realize - a man like Town and Country will settle down only when he wants to. You are so right - he has no need whatsoever for a woman/wife/girlfriend. I mean this is why I wondered if he had a rotation, or queue.

Perhaps he does admire it because it is something he does not know like he knows business and the related Wall Street arts. Inchie tape ... tee hee ... love it. Yes, inchie tape, have not heard that in a LOOOONG time.

Love the image of immersion. :)
